Project Context
Over the years, the Rockefeller Foundation has become increasingly engaged in supporting the adoption of regenerative agriculture. Through our collaborations on various projects, including the SFA Haiti Cotton initiative, we were commissioned to support the delivery of a series of reports focused on scaling regenerative agriculture amongst smallholder farmers, to inform the pioneering work of Regen10 – a public-private partnership dedicated to advancing regenerative agriculture globally. Our work focused predominantly on understanding the factors that make commercial regenerative agriculture viable, strategies for scaling regenerative agriculture, and the role of ancillary crops in farm economics – both from an ecological as well as business point of view.
Process
The process involved ongoing engagement with a broad variety of actors across many different public and private domains that are active in the global smallholder farming space. These ranged from academia, to farmers and cooperation, as well as from supply chain actors to governmental institutions.

Stakeholder Engagement
Achieving lasting regenerative outcomes requires a long-term vision, commitment, and a shift to a new collaborative paradigm. It’s essential that all key stakeholders—particularly buyers and producers—are aligned on long-term goals, approaches and key aspects required to regenerate the agricultural systems they are working on. We engage all stakeholders in a foundational process that develops their ability to think and operate from a regenerative perspective. Stakeholder engagement is critical because it builds the trust, mutual understanding and healthy relationships that are required for long-term project success.
